GM
In order to start this simulation you will need two Myos and a 3D compatible TV.
All motion within the program is controlled through Myo Armbands (myo.com). In order to properly operate the program, two Myos are needed. Multiple hand gestures are used in accordance with arm motion/position. Instructions are as follows:
Menu
Left hand:
Fist - Start program
Wave In - Credits Page
Double Tap - Previous Menu
Wave Out - Exit Page
Wave Out - End program
Penguin Mode
Left hand/arm:
Wave In - Set position of both Myos in space
Rotate arm - Turning penguin
Raise arm - Jump
Right hand/arm:
Double Tap - Attack 1
Raise Arm - Attack 2
God Mode
Left hand/arm:
Raise arm - Pan up
Lower arm - Pan down
Rotate right - Pan right
Rotate left - Pan left
Wave Out - Drop penguin and return to penguin mode
Tech Results:
Our project revolved around the use of the Myos. They have only been available for a couple of years, so implementation was expected to be buggy. Myos integrated fairly easily with Unity and any connection issues were resolvable outside of Unity. Myos had to be calibrated to individual users for best results/readings from the armbands. Some hand gestures proved to be buggy and not reliable, so number of different commands was limited to more consistent gestures. The most difficult part of using the Myos came when we attempted to control the scene with arm motions in addition to hand gestures. All full arm motions needed to be converted from relative positions in space to x,y,z positions for Unity. Some of the motions proved difficult to incorporate. Overall, the final project is responsive to gestures and made the user's interaction with the program much more captivating than a typical mouse and keyboard.
